It’s been a while

Let’s just say that last two years were quite hectic and during the covid rollercoaster I kept myself busy with other projects, not so much with this blog. But no matter what I will keep on writing, because I do have so much content to share. Despite everything that’s been going on in the world, I was able to travel a lot since 2020 till now and I do feel thankful. Travel was so limited, it felt like an appocalypse happened , something that no one could predict.

Europe travels in 2020

Of course 2020 was extremely special in terms of traveling and I was just happy that we were able to travel at least a bit. In 2020 we traveled to Iceland, Greece and Cyprus, it wasn’t really a bad year. I’m also always forgetting that we were in Asia for almost 6 weeks in the beginning of 2020. So yes, after Asia, the rest of 2020 was dedicated to Europe. I was always saving Iceland for “later”. And that later finally came in 2020. We were so lucky with Iceland. Prices were very low in July 2020 and there were almost 0 other travelers. Also continued our travels to Greece and Cyprus in 2020. It was more than expected. I thought we would be stuck in Slovenia the whole time.

2021 brings travel back

And 2021 started with traveling to the Azores, which was fantastic. I love the Azores so much. It’s undoubtley an undiscovered gem in Europe and I do highly recommend The Azores. From Azores to Iceland, Santorini and then Namibia. Also visited Cape Verde in 2021 and Jorda. Actually I went to Namibia twice. So lucky, I know. With the kids we’ve been to Santorini, Namibia and Jordan in 2021. They loved it. Will write more about it in future posts. So beginning with April 2021, things were back to te new normal.

The new normal for traveling

Well, nothing is the same anymore. Each country demands something. Either a covid test or another certificate, but for sure there is something. So traveling is not like it was before 2020. But it’s of course one more time possible to travel. More and more countries are also opening up to tourism. Which is a wonderful news. Not only will tourism help those who work directly in tourism, but also to a wide circle of people that were desperate during the last two years. So no matter what the measures are, I don’t care much. As long as we can travel!

I just came home from Venezuela

Can you even believe it? Since 2013 I’ve been planning this trip and finally now it happened. So very happy about it. Some would say that now is the most inappropriate time to visit Venezuela, but I highly disagree. I will write more about Venezuela in future posts, so follow along if you want to find out more. I guess 2022 started so well. Spent the New Years in Jordan and my next trip was Venezuela. Kinda hope it continues this way.

Let’s travel!

So yes, here’s to more travels this year. And I’ll also do my best to write more. Because there are stories, believe me… So many. And many more to come, I so much look forward to it. Until the next time, I’ll add some photos down below.

Another perfect sunset in Africa. I never, never g Another perfect sunset in Africa. I never, never get tired of sunsets. Especially in such surreal places, sunset shouldn’t be missed. Namibia is probably one of the most photogenic countries and you don’t even need to edit the pics and videos. Because the colors, wow!

The stunning Angel Falls. Words cannot express, ho The stunning Angel Falls. Words cannot express, how beautiful this view is. You have to go and see it yourself. I never imagined that Angel Falls would be so beautiful. I saw the photos and videos, heard stories, read articles. And then witnessed this. Not just the falls, but the surroundings, the exclusivity of this area that cannot be compared.

Going back this summer! Cannot wait.

Santorini, a famous place, worth all the hype. Sta Santorini, a famous place, worth all the hype. Staying on top of the caldera is of course a must and Imerovigli is the best of all the villages there. Imagine this view every day right from your room. Nothing quite compares to this! I’m not sure when we’ll go back, because probably soon Santorini will be crowded again and that makes it loose a little bit of its charm. But it’s easy to understand, why so many want to come. These views 😍

Baule Goli mask performance. Kplekple masks are th Baule Goli mask performance. Kplekple masks are the ones that start everything. A tradition still alive here in Côte d’Ivoire in the area of Baule people. The masks appear when they are needed. In times of danger or when there’s a funeral, sickness. They chase away everything bad. They are intercessors with supernatural forces.

Only men can wear the masks and only men can play the music that accompanies the performance. Women can dance by the side. Children are usually afraid of the masks. So funny to watch them react.

My favorite part was how the whole village gathered when the performance started. They enjoy this so much. And so did I. Now is the time to visit these places. The traditions are still alive and not yet a part of the folklore. That is what makes Côte d’Ivoire so special.

A little break from all the vibrancy of Africa. It A little break from all the vibrancy of Africa. It was so easy to fall in love with Venezuela. These magical surroundings are just so captivating and make you feel like you’re in another world.

The tepuis, table top mountains, dominate the beautiful lands of Canaima National Park. The word tepui means “house of the gods” in the native tongue of Pemon people, who inhabit this area. And that name is so very much suitable. Who else could live here. Tepuis are isolated entities and they host unique, endemic plant and animal species. So there’s a whole new world up there.

Even though our journey to and from Angel falls was long, I kinda wanted it to last longer. What’s not to love here. I couldn’t get enough of these landscapes that carried me away to the beautiful world of daydreaming. See you soon, Venezuela.

Côte d’Ivoire, probably not a very common trave Côte d’Ivoire, probably not a very common travel destination, but oh so fascinating. This country is all about the people, their lives, culture and traditions. It’s where you can experience animism up close, extremely authentic and makes you feel like you’re in a documentary.

I believe we all search for authentic places, experiences. And in Côte d’Ivoire it’s just like that. This country doesn’t receive many foreign visitors and isn’t maybe the easiest when it comes to traveling around. But it has so much to offer. All these ethnic groups are keeping their traditions alive and it’s not a folklore, but it’s their lives.

Witnessing the mask dances, initiation dances, all the animism rituals, learning about fetishes and the priests. It makes your head spinning. Wow, what a culture! I just hope and wish things don’t change too much here. But just in case, go visit this amazing country the soonest!

This dance is known as Goli, and this mask as Goli This dance is known as Goli, and this mask as Goli Glin. The mask is worn with an ample costume of woven green palm fronds that emphasizes the association with wild nature. There is no possible way that this costume could be preserved, Baule men always make them just before they are used, and this seems to be part of the meaning of the performance.

During the performance, this mask is one of a pair of identical masks that emerge from the forest together, where bush spirits abide, to enter the village.
