Monday or Sunday, it’s all the same (for me)

A few days ago I went to the store to buy a few necessities for home. I was so surprised to see the schedule of opening hours fort he following days. The store was supposed to be open on May 1st and May 2nd. Both are national holidays and especially May 1st is important as it is an International Labor day. This got me thinking. Does this store really need to be open on these two days? It’s a big store, supermarket actually and recently opened. And we do live in a touristy place so there are reasons. But still.

My working schedule doesn’t know weekends or national holidays too.

Being self employed and working in tourism, I work anytime and also anywhere. Usually in the evenings when the kids are asleep. Before doing more of an »office work« like I do now, I worked as a tourist guide for many years. I worked through all the new years, national holidays, weekends and similar. Well, mostly I worked when others were free. And I was free when others worked. But I really didn’t mind.

I totally forgot how does the excitment over TGIF feel like.

I’m mostly excited everyday as I love what I do. And I look forward to the evenings or daytime hours when I can work. The last time I was excited about Friday was high school I suppose. Well, don’t get me wrong, I still like Fridays, but I do love other days of the week too. Also Mondays! Any day is a good day really. The best ones are when there’s not much work to do and we get to spend them together, the whole family.

There are positives and negatives to any situation.

For some it might be better to have a schedule, work from Monday to Friday and have weekends off. For me, I prefer my situation. We usually travel in off season (we also take day trips on weekdays mostly). This means less crowds everywhere and usually also lower prices for accommodation and such stuff. We love this. But on the other hand, we work even while on holidays. And we’re almost always accessible. We’ll spend the days with the kids, but evenings behind the computer (we could have just enjoyed our free time – we is me and my partner because we work together). One thing I also like is that our office can be anywhere. There’s a lot to talk about, but let’s stay at point.

So let the store be open, but still…

…I believe it could have been closed. Just because it’s May 1st and only what is truly necessary should operate / be open.

Thanks for reading,

Ajda
