Finding time or where have we been for a while?
August 20, 2018

I’ve been quiet with my posts for the last few months. Well, won’t be searching for excuses, I somehow didn’t make time for writing. I will improve this by getting myself to publish posts at least twice a week. After all, I’ve got so much to tell. Would need a day to be a couple of hours longer though. But I’ll take the time I need to because writing is my thing. And there are so many stories waiting to be told.

We’ve been around, as always.

Because being around is the time when we all feel most alive. So we try to be around as much as possible. May it be a one month trip to somewhere on the other side of the world or a weekend getaway somewhere close to our home. We like it all and it feels good everytime we pack our stuff and go! Isn’t’ that the best feeling ever? The two little travelers also inherited our wanderlust and cannot wait to go somewhere. Anywhere.

Exploring the always inspiring Capadoccia.

Slovenia, Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Turkey,…

The destinations of last year. We live in Slovenia, but even though there are still so many places to see and explore here that we haven’t even heard of. Slovenia is a wonderful travel destination, so diverse despite being small. We love to explore Slovenia because we’d love to learn about our home country more. And it’s so easy. At any time we want, we just get in our car and drive somewhere around the only country with LOVE in its name. More about our adventures in Slovenia is coming in separate posts.

Ko Lanta, Thailand. Enjoying life!

In search of a perfect seaside holiday place

Almost always we add to our trips a few days (or a week) by the sea. To relax, swim, be extremely easy going. Always in search of a place, we would like to return to each year for those annual seaside holidays. Have we found the place? Not yet, but we might be close. Are we those kinds of people that return to the same place over and over again through the years? Not sure, but we might become when we find that place. And it’s that constant wanderlust that keeps us moving around and going to new places.

The beautiful Cirali beach in Turkey.

The kids love traveling more and more

Because that’s the time when we all unwind. It might be intense from time to time, but still. We’re together all the time when we travel and don’t have to worry about basic home stuff like cooking, cleaning and similar. We share so many experiences together, the good and the bad. Everything is more simple when we travel. We have two travel bags and that’s it. Easy to choose clothes and no unnecessary stuff we have at home. Both kids just adore exploring new places (and new hotels), are curious to learn about a new culture and like to meet new people.

Airport life. Always making the best of the time spent at the airports.

Where are we right now?

In Indonesia. Just arrived at our beloved Bali. Yes, Bali is a classic travel destination and we actually didn’t plan it this time, but it just somehow happened. And to be honest, I want to explore more of Bali, whenever I was here (it was a few times and for long periods), I was just kinda stuck to one place, loved it there and didn’t feel the need to move. So we’ll be in Bali for a while more. Loving so much about it, but that’s another, long story. This time I’ll make sure to take more photos and will write about it.

What’s next?

Not sure yet. Our travel (and daily life) plans change all the time, so have no idea, where this fall will take us. We’ll make the most of it. And I’ll do my best to publish more posts, this blog is waiting impatiently to be full of stories.

Until next time,

Ajda

Another perfect sunset in Africa. I never, never g Another perfect sunset in Africa. I never, never get tired of sunsets. Especially in such surreal places, sunset shouldn’t be missed. Namibia is probably one of the most photogenic countries and you don’t even need to edit the pics and videos. Because the colors, wow!

The stunning Angel Falls. Words cannot express, ho The stunning Angel Falls. Words cannot express, how beautiful this view is. You have to go and see it yourself. I never imagined that Angel Falls would be so beautiful. I saw the photos and videos, heard stories, read articles. And then witnessed this. Not just the falls, but the surroundings, the exclusivity of this area that cannot be compared.

Going back this summer! Cannot wait.

Santorini, a famous place, worth all the hype. Sta Santorini, a famous place, worth all the hype. Staying on top of the caldera is of course a must and Imerovigli is the best of all the villages there. Imagine this view every day right from your room. Nothing quite compares to this! I’m not sure when we’ll go back, because probably soon Santorini will be crowded again and that makes it loose a little bit of its charm. But it’s easy to understand, why so many want to come. These views 😍

Baule Goli mask performance. Kplekple masks are th Baule Goli mask performance. Kplekple masks are the ones that start everything. A tradition still alive here in Côte d’Ivoire in the area of Baule people. The masks appear when they are needed. In times of danger or when there’s a funeral, sickness. They chase away everything bad. They are intercessors with supernatural forces.

Only men can wear the masks and only men can play the music that accompanies the performance. Women can dance by the side. Children are usually afraid of the masks. So funny to watch them react.

My favorite part was how the whole village gathered when the performance started. They enjoy this so much. And so did I. Now is the time to visit these places. The traditions are still alive and not yet a part of the folklore. That is what makes Côte d’Ivoire so special.

A little break from all the vibrancy of Africa. It A little break from all the vibrancy of Africa. It was so easy to fall in love with Venezuela. These magical surroundings are just so captivating and make you feel like you’re in another world.

The tepuis, table top mountains, dominate the beautiful lands of Canaima National Park. The word tepui means “house of the gods” in the native tongue of Pemon people, who inhabit this area. And that name is so very much suitable. Who else could live here. Tepuis are isolated entities and they host unique, endemic plant and animal species. So there’s a whole new world up there.

Even though our journey to and from Angel falls was long, I kinda wanted it to last longer. What’s not to love here. I couldn’t get enough of these landscapes that carried me away to the beautiful world of daydreaming. See you soon, Venezuela.

Côte d’Ivoire, probably not a very common trave Côte d’Ivoire, probably not a very common travel destination, but oh so fascinating. This country is all about the people, their lives, culture and traditions. It’s where you can experience animism up close, extremely authentic and makes you feel like you’re in a documentary.

I believe we all search for authentic places, experiences. And in Côte d’Ivoire it’s just like that. This country doesn’t receive many foreign visitors and isn’t maybe the easiest when it comes to traveling around. But it has so much to offer. All these ethnic groups are keeping their traditions alive and it’s not a folklore, but it’s their lives.

Witnessing the mask dances, initiation dances, all the animism rituals, learning about fetishes and the priests. It makes your head spinning. Wow, what a culture! I just hope and wish things don’t change too much here. But just in case, go visit this amazing country the soonest!

This dance is known as Goli, and this mask as Goli This dance is known as Goli, and this mask as Goli Glin. The mask is worn with an ample costume of woven green palm fronds that emphasizes the association with wild nature. There is no possible way that this costume could be preserved, Baule men always make them just before they are used, and this seems to be part of the meaning of the performance.

During the performance, this mask is one of a pair of identical masks that emerge from the forest together, where bush spirits abide, to enter the village.
